Fast X trailer shows Dom's past coming back to haunt him

Fast X's first trailer has finally arrived and, as ever, Dom's familia is under threat from his past.

Following its exclusive trailer event last night (February 9), the nearly four-minute-long trailer is packed with surprises for Fast & Furious fans – not least a connection to Fast Five.

It turns out that Jason Momoa's Dante is linked to the fifth movie's villain Reyes (more on that here), and he's out for revenge as the latest antagonist to threaten to break apart Dom's familia, including kidnapping his son Brian.

The trailer also gives us brief first looks at the new characters played by Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior and Rita Moreno(!), a classic Fast stunt involving Dom and two helicopters and it ends with Letty's unwelcome reunion with Cipher.

Fast X arrives in cinemas on May 19 and is the first part of the franchise's epic two-part finale.

Along with Diesel, Fast X will see the return of many familiar faces, including Sung Kang as Han, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, Tyrese Gibson as Roman, Ludacris as Tej, Jordana Brewster as Mia, Charlize Theron as Cipher, Dame Helen Mirren as Queenie, and Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey.

Joining the cast is Aquaman's Jason Momoa, who will play the franchise's latest antagonist, who goes by the name Dante and is an ally of Charlize Theron's character Cipher.

Previously teasing his character, the actor said: "It's been hard because people always think I'm just this dude who plays [macho characters]. But I want to be moved, I want something new. Things are changing, and even the villain roles I'm playing now are eccentric."

He went on to reveal that Dante colours his toenails pink, cruises a lavender vehicle and laughs like a maniac. "I'm a peacock at the highest level and I'm having the time of my life," he added.

Fast X will also see the addition of Captain Marvel herself Brie Larson, who will play a new character called Tess and Hollywood icon Rita Moreno.

Fast X will be released in cinemas on May 19.
